As Alexandria, Virginia’s wastewater treatment authority, AlexRenew knows the City’s century-old sewer system inside and out. Each year, that system dumps 140 million gallons of combined sewage into local rivers and streams.
West Cary Group knew our extensive public sector expertise could help AlexRenew spread the word about this issue along with their efforts to fix it. So while their team of top engineers designed a once-in-a-generation tunnel project, we got to work, too, by building the brand that would become RiverRenew.

Our team leveraged our community engagement expertise to coordinate with major stakeholders and spearhead outreach planning for RiverRenew. Over the course of our 7+ year partnership with AlexRenew, we created an enduring, omnichannel strategy to reach members of the Alexandria community wherever they were.
In February 2022 that reach achieved a new high when the National Association of Clean Water Agencies awarded AlexRenew a National Environmental Achievement Award for their Cloe and Friends campaign, created and produced by WCG.
As RiverRenew’s reputation spreads throughout the City, respect for the program is growing. Now more eyes than ever before are fixed on AlexRenew’s success and the healthier waterways’ future ahead.
Meanwhile, as we continue to tackle branding, digital strategy, full website builds, print collateral, environmental awareness campaigns, children’s outreach, event management, and a whole lot more, our partnership with AlexRenew continues to evolve alongside its monumental project.
